The initial groups of undocumented immigrants, apprehended as part of President Trump’s intensified enforcement efforts, have been flown to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. This facility, which currently contains a modest holding area for migrants, may soon undergo significant expansion to accommodate tens of thousands of detainees.

According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, two aircraft have transported migrants in recent days. One of these flights, carrying roughly a dozen criminals, took off from Fort Bliss, Texas.

While Guantanamo Bay is primarily known for detaining suspected terrorists captured by the United States, it also maintains a small section—around 120 beds—designated for housing migrants intercepted while attempting to enter the country illegally via the Gulf of Mexico.

President Trump has floated the idea of increasing the facility’s capacity to handle a much larger number of detainees. His administration has indicated that modifications to Guantanamo Bay could potentially provide space for up to 30,000 migrants as part of his broader immigration crackdown.
