The U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue has announced that emergency benefit increases have reached $2.0 billion per month for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) households across all 50 states and 3 territories to increase food security during the coronavirus national emergency. These emergency benefits represent a 40% increase in overall monthly SNAP benefits, significantly increasing food purchasing power for American families.

“These are unprecedented times for American families who are facing joblessness and hunger. USDA is providing a 40% increase in SNAP benefits to ensure that low-income individuals have enough food to feed themselves and their families during this national emergency,” said Secretary Perdue. “President Trump is taking care of America’s working-class families who have been hit hard with economic distress due to the coronavirus. Ensuring all households receive the maximum allowable SNAP benefit is an important part of President Trump’s whole of America response to the coronavirus.”

  1. This is a false report, there is no 40% increase as being reported here. The USDA allowed each state by state to give each person the maximum benefits per family allowed for 2 months. Meaning if someone has a household of 7 and they always got $906. now they will get the maximum which is $1018. This is only an 11% increase. If they got $610 prior to covid 19, then they are getting a 40% increase to bring them to the maximum of 1018 for 7 members.

    Please report accurately.
    Thanks

  2. Ridiculous. Everyone is already getting free food from the schools. Who is going to pay for all of this? We the taxpayers. Is the government paying for weight watchers also after this is all over?

    • Chaim, I am happy to hear that your family is doing well in these trying times. Your bank account is b”h full and you can support your family healthily. You are B”h also able to pay your schar limud, gas-electric-telephone bills, rent or mortgage without any help. I am very happy for you and for any (hopefully many) in klal yisroel that can continue for 6 weeks without salaries (sometimes even both parents are unable to make money, or they run a business that is closed due to pause NYS.)
But unfortunately me, and many other hard working parents don’t have where to take money from to buy food till the end of the month, since the amount of money they get from SNAP does not suffice for kosher food.
So don’t sit their in your big house, that has a gym inside, and a large bank account to support all your unnecessary habits (which I am really happy that you have) and poke fun at those who are not making ends meet, which is not by choice. I think you owe some people an apology for your heartless comments.
Ending with a brocho from the bottom of my heart, may hashem never let you feel the pain others are going through now.

      • I’m with you Adina. There has always been a big disconnect between the “haves” and the “have-nots”. I have been from the have-nots ever since our family has grown be”h. My wife & I both work (until this Coronavirus) full time and still can’t make ends meet. We find that tuition for our 6 children kn”h is an impossible burden (endless hole) from which we can never get out. Yes, we receive SNAP benefits and Medicaid for which we’re very grateful for. Every penny/dollar helps us tremendously. I always say, if millions of goyim are on all the programs, why can’t we legally also be on the ones that give us some sort of relief? There is nothing to feel guilty about. We are not breaking any laws. For those that criticize us, ask them directly for a hand out/nidava. They will never say another word about it again. It’s a tried and true strategy.
As far as them poking our eyes out with their monster mansions, that’s a separate discussion.
