USPS Ordered To Increase Late, Extra Trips For Election Mail

Postmaster General Louis DeJoy was ordered to immediately begin expanding mail delivery with extra trips and later deliveries after the U.S. Postal Service failed to improve performance less than a week before the election.

U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan in Washington late Tuesday granted an emergency request to enforce and monitor compliance with an earlier injunction he ordered. The ruling is a victory for civil rights groups and Democratic-led states that alleged in several lawsuits that the changes were undermining the election to the benefit of President Donald Trump.

  1. Post office service has been so bad for the past few years that there was no need to sabotage it. If the Trump and the Republicans hadn’t brought attention to it, many if not most, mail in ballots wouldn’t have arrived on time or would not have arrived at all. By bringing attention to it they sabotaged their own efforts to make it worse.
    During the primaries in New York a huge percentage of mail in ballots were disqualified because of postal problems.

  2. Who voluntarily uses the postal service anymore? Just about all my transactions and communications are electronic. When I want to make absolutely, positively certain that my message goes through, I either FedEx it or send it over the net. Postal Service Express Mail is simply not on the table.

    Think of USPS like the assigned risk pool for auto insurance. You only use it when there are no other options.
