bubble-wrap[Video below.] In the following short video, Rabbi Yaakov Salomon, C.S.W. a noted psychotherapist, in private practice in Brooklyn, N.Y. for over 25 years, contends that we are overprotective of our kids, thereby preventing them from learning how to fend for themselves out in the world. We’ve created, he says, “a bubble-wrapped generation.” To view the video click below.

  1. Since my kids grew up out of town also (outside of the tri-state area), they all biked or skated to yeshiva, walked to the corner store and even went with friends for ice cream on their own (age 9 and up). New Yorkers are too scared about too many things. Cut off the bubblewrap and the future kids will thank you.

  2. We (in Brooklyn) live in dangerous times and place. Young kids walking after dark to shul by themselves is a Sakona! There are undesireables (perverts) lurking outside. Do you remember what happened in Boro Park last summer R”L? It is totally iresponsible to let kids out unsupervised!

  3. We cannot be naive and believe our children will not be abducted and it’s imperative that we provide safety for our children. This video is absurd. Each situation is unique.

  4. Well you have the opposite extreme, in some neighborhoods the 4 to 7 year olds are given so much autonomy they even become babysitters for their infant and toddler siblings!!! Babies babysit babies. If you want to become a parent, you have to be responsible, even when it’s inconvenient.
