[Video below.] Israeli Education Minister Shai Piron laughed, and laughed, and laughed, and laughed.
After hours of voting on the panel appointing judges, extending the Law to Prevent Infiltration, increasing the deficit and more, the time came for the government to present its position on a law increasing the penalty for smuggling phones and dangerous items into prisons to up to five years in jail.
An exhausted, but cheerful Piron took the stand and began reading the legislation and cracked up laughing when he got to the words “inserting items into prisons.”
As the Voos reports:
Education MInister Shai Piron left many wondering if the State of Israel is a laughingstock, after he completely lost control of himself last night in a speech to the Knesset.
The rotund minister from Yesh Atid heaved with laughter while he tried to introduce a standard piece of legislation on behalf of the government,. When MK Moshe Gafni inquired what was so funny, Piron completely lost it and dissolved into more fits of laughter. As the scene played out, other MKs in the chamber joined the laughter, forcing Piron to flee the podium in disgrace.
He concluded his stellar performance by mistakenly plopping down in a different member’s seat. When he realized this, Piron staggered to his feet, wiping sweat from his brow and pulling up his pants, which had slipped down during the embarrassing episode.
Lest one think that this is fictional, the entire affair is on video.
