obama1[Video below.] President Obama bemoaned the “erosion of civility” in the nation’s political debate today, telling an audience at the National Prayer Breakfast that there is a growing sense that “something is broken” in Washington.”Those of us in Washington are not serving the people as well as we should,” Obama said. “At times, it seems like we’re unable to listen to one another, to have at once a serious and civil debate.”

Obama contrasted the sense of duty and service summoned in response to disasters such as the earthquake in Haiti with the seeming inability of the nation’s policymakers to answer “the slow-moving tragedies of children without food and men without shelter and families without health care.”

The president criticized a political culture where disagreement on policy quickly morphs into questioning one another’s motives. Obama, a Christian who was born in Hawaii, alluded to the undercurrent of allegations that he is actually a Muslim who was born outside the United States, saying, “I am the first to confess that I am not always right. . . . But surely, you can question my policies without questioning my faith, or, for that matter, my citizenship,”

Speaking to an audience at the Hilton Washington hotel that included Vice President Biden, congressional leaders, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and an array of religious leaders and foreign dignitaries, Obama called on leaders to step outside their comfort zones to bridge divisions and unite around their common goals.

“Challenging each other’s ideas can renew our democracy,” Obama said. “But when we challenge each other’s motives, it becomes harder to see what we hold in common.”

Much of Obama’s domestic agenda, including his signature health-care overhaul proposal, is snared in a web of near-unanimous Republican opposition in Congress. The recent victory of Republican Scott Brown in a special Senate election in Massachusetts deprived the Democrats of a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, and left them without an obvious path forward for the president’s proposals.

In recent meetings with House Republicans and Senate Democrats, Obama has called on lawmakers to be more open in debating the merits of competing policy ideas. At the prayer breakfast, Obama renewed his call for lawmakers to search for common ground.

“We may disagree about the best way to reform our health-care system, but surely we can agree that no one ought to go broke when they get sick in the richest nation on Earth,” Obama said. “We can take different approaches to ending inequality, but surely we can agree on the need to lift our children out of ignorance; to lift our neighbors from poverty. ”

  1. Obama bemoans the lack of civility? It’s his
fault. In his opinion, “something is broken in
Washington.” It’s his ridiculous ideology which
undermines both moral and national security.

How dare he take the unilateral step
to use his prestigious office to confer legitimacy upon sodomy in the US military. His
decision is against the moral majority of Americans from all walks of life.

Everyone agrees that the current policy in effect since the Clinton administration—“Don’t Ask, don’t tell”–is
working satisfactorily. (This is, by the way,
a faith-based issue which is of vital importance to all religious Americans.)

    Perversely, that’s not good enough
for Obama. As a radical ideologue, he believes
    in change—regardless of the consequences.
Acting on that puerile idea, he foolishly and
immorally decides to implement a policy legitimizing misconduct in the military. This is an outrage. Does he think he is king of Sodom? Aside from the obvious theological objections, there are pragmatic considerations that are disregarded.

    Why risk alienating America’s
military personnel by treading on their cherished religious beliefs? (What a person does privately is a separate issue. If a person sins in private, he’s responsible. On the other hand, when society gives its staamp of approval on sin, immorality, then we are all
responsible if we do not protest.)

    In his recent declaration on
same-gender deviance, this president betrays tradition, America’s biblical heritage
and common sense. But most of all, he officially condones a most heinous transgression which is classified an abomination. All good people should protest and
demand that this president see to it that the Islamist Jihad imperialists in Guantanamo stay
    down there. That’s his job.

His job is not to overturn God’s
law. It’s a disgrace. (Nobody at that breakfast denounced this fellow’s immoral
decision.) It is bad enough that he is wrecking the economy, undermining national security; now he proposes to make “Toeivah” kosher. Shame on him. Nobody should be surprised. This was a campaign promise and he is acting on it to the detriment of America.

  2. I dont’ know how to tell you this, Dr. Berger, but some military personnel are toeivah followers, and being able to say so doesn’t “tread on cherished religious beliefs.” And many of those who serve with them don’t care who the love, as long as they serve with bravery.

What is this to you? I always wonder about people who are so fixated on this, of all issues…

  3. Oh, and how is he “overturning God’s law”? This isn’t a religious issue, it’s a civil/military one. He’s not telling you what to believe and practice in the comfort of your own shul and life.

  4. Scott Brown should be seated. Notice how Obama–Wise Guy-In-Chief with his khavrusa
Emmanuel are passing legislation before Brown is seated. Remember American history? Could that possibly be a repetition of
taxation without representation? You bet your life it is.

Chicago politics is now conducted on a national level. Isn’t it wonderful, kinderlach? (I’m not suggesting that Brown is
perfect; like any politician you’ve got to watch him. But he certainly is entitled to vote on legislation.) Why is the Senate conducting business without Brown? He was duly elected—a minor detail perhaps to leftist lunatics in Washington. But thoughtful people
know it is a major detail. What a disgrace!
All liberals and socialists should be voted out of office. The sooner the better. Fire Holder. Fire Napolitano. The sooner the better.

  5. Dr Berger

I won’t argue the issue but I am amazed how this is the only thing you focus on as if this this is the only issue facing the nation. What are your feelings about abortion as your only concerned with Hashem’s honor. by the way how do you feel about Christianity in general as you are concerned about “overturning G-D’s law”. Your motivation here is your own revulsion for this behavior so leave G-d out of it

  6. Maybe Dr. Berger’s motivation isn’t his own revulsion for this behavior at all. Methinks he doth protest too much.

  7. Re #3 “I don’t know how to tell you this
    but some …are toeivah followers..”

You miss the point: Barack Obama
wants to make it official. 1)There are religious military personnel who follow the Bible which teaches that toeivah conduct is
a grievous sin. Sodomy should therefore not be made official. 2) Governmental approbation is
misplaced and inappropriate because it overrides the beliefs of the overwhelming majority of the electorate including military
personnel. (The people should have a voice in this via a referendum.)

“What is this to you?” It is a matter of theological principle and tradition. As an
Orthodox Jewish Rabbi and a proud American citizen I care deeply about this great country.
Consequently, I hereby exercise my right to freedom of speech and religion to protest the president’s misguided initiative in order to change things. But Obama fails to understand that approbation of sodomite deviance is not new. This silly initiative dates back to antiquity. So don’t fall for Obama’s rhetoric about change and progress.

Besides immorality, Obama’s policy is extemely old-fashioned.

    Do you favor toeivah conduct?
    Are you an Orthodox Jew?
Why are you fixated on legalizing
sodomy? I didn’t bring this up. The “toeivah”
    lobby has been promoting this evil scheme;
now Obama panders to the toeivah
lobby foolishly in the name of the nation.
At least he should allow the people to vote on it. He won’t because he knows that most Americans will reject this wickedness.

#4 “How is he overturning God’s law?”

    Answer: By legalizing a transgression
branded an abomination in the Torah:
    (Leviticus 18:22–BT Sanhedrin)
(This prohibition is accepted by almost all major world religions.)
    #6 “I won’t argue the issue but I
am amazed how this is the only
    thing you focus on…”

You are uninformed. I write about
    numerous subjects related to Torah
    and current events. (Before posting,
know what you are talking about.)
    What are you arguing about?

    “Your motivation is your own
    revulsion for this behavior.”

No, wrong again. As an Orthodox
Jewish Rabbi I believe in the
Torah which warns us not to
    legalize this horrendous
    transgression. (Genesis 19)
    Almighty God destroyed the
    wicked cities of Sodom and
    Gemorrah for having legalized
    the aformentioned sin.
To avoid the wrath of Almighty
    God, the American government
    must reject legalization of
    this abomination. Thus, the basis
for my opposition to this sin is
derived from the Torah. As a
rabbi, I believe that institutionalizing societal recognition thereof
will have catastrophic consequences. The Bible
episode involving Sodom and Gemorrah serves as
an eternal warning to all mankind not to make this sin legal. That’s what the president is doing unfairly at the expense of the electorate.

#7 “Methinks he doeth protest too
    much.”

    Rebuttal: Methinks thou doest
    protesteth too much.
    Furthermore, methinks Obama
    doth protesteth too much.

Whether you liberals and socialists like it or not, most Americans think
like me. Whether you like it or not, most Americans vehemently oppose any attempt to grant official recognition to sodomy in any official form. (Notice how obsessed these pro-
toeivah activists are. That’s all they are concerned about.) Repent now before it is too late.
    #6 Annoyed

Your comments on abortion, Christianity, HASHEM’s honor are unclear.
Are you asking a question? Are you making a statement? If you want, restate your question.
But please stick to the subject.( Or ask someone else on this website.)

    God bless America.
