olmert[Video below.] Speaking of geniuses, former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and former Mossad chief Meir Dagan have again publicly criticized Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu’s policies pertaining to Iran’s nuclear program.

Speaking at the annual Jerusalem Post Conference in New York, reports Israel Hayom, Olmert said that in his view the Iranians have yet to cross the red line stipulated by Israel. “I think that we have exaggerated, for a long time, the potential threat of Iran possessing nuclear power,” Olmert said. “They don’t have it not only because of their failures. Perhaps someone helped them to fail.”

Olmert suggested that “quiet” cooperation with the Americans was the best strategy for Israel going forward: “When the U.S. president says publicly that the United States won’t allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon, I think it should be taken seriously and that’s what I advise the Iranians to do.”

Israel Hayom adds that Olmert elaborated on the Palestinian issue. He was met with a chorus of boos and jeers from the crowd when he said Israel should return to the negotiating table, that a two-state solution was crucial, and that Israel must “split the land.” He criticized Netanyahu, saying the prime minister’s policies regarding the Palestinians were ambiguous.

Olmert went on to say that Israel’s strategic situation was currently the best it has been in many years and that there was no real threat to its existence. “In the next five or 10 years it appears Israel will not be dragged into a military ground war. No enemy state has the capabilities for a combined air and ground war, for now and for the foreseeable future,” Olmert said.
