The bird, hatched in the neighborhood of Meah Shearim, has drawn crowds of curious onlookers to the shlach thois.

And yesterday, the owner of the twelve-toed chicken, Reb Yoel Krause, received a p’sak from the Badatz of the Eidah Hachareidis of Yerushalayim regarding whether it is a kosher bird.

The Badatz members ruled that the chicken is kosher, but they recommended that it not be shechted.

Rabbi Krause had shown the unique chicken to a number of rabbonim and dayanim over the week and finally brought it before the dayanim of the Badatz for their decision.

At the Badatz headquarters, Rabbi Krause met with Rav Yaakov Blau, Rav Avrohom Yitzchok Ulman, and Rav Mendel Yurovitz. After two days, they issued their p’sak: the bird is kosher but should preferably not be shechted.

Meanwhile, Rabbi Krause related, the chicken had been brought to many kollelim in Eretz Yisroel that are learning the halachos of treifos. The chicken, he said, has educational value, so for now it will be left alone and will be observed for a year.

“I’ve seen three [feet] twice. Four is a little strange,” said Rabbi Krause.
