Vivek Ramaswamy has reportedly submitted the necessary paperwork to officially enter the race for Ohio’s governor in the 2026 election.

On Friday, he filed the required documents with the Ohio Secretary of State’s office, signaling his intention to run for governor, as reported by WTVG.

The 39-year-old businessman’s campaign completed the Designation of Treasurer form, a mandatory filing before a candidate can begin accepting or spending funds for their campaign.

Ramaswamy is set to make a formal announcement about his candidacy later this month.
“It’s Vivek Ramaswamy – I’m hitting the road for a major announcement, and I want to see you there!” he wrote on his newly launched website.

The entrepreneur, who previously ran for the Republican presidential nomination, will kick off his campaign for Ohio governor on February 24 in his hometown of Cincinnati, according to the Associated Press.

On February 25, he is scheduled to visit Glass City Center in Toledo and The Local Bar in Strongsville, a Cleveland suburb, as listed on his campaign website.

Additionally, Ramaswamy will be the keynote speaker at the 2025 Lucas County Lincoln Day Dinner in Maumee, Ohio, on March 14. The event is located southwest of Toledo.
The buzz surrounding Ramaswamy’s gubernatorial candidacy grew following his departure from the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) last month.
As of now, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost is the only other contender running for the Republican nomination in the state’s 2026 gubernatorial race.

So far, Ramaswamy has received endorsements from Ohio State Treasurer Robert Sprague and Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, according to WTVG.

On the Democratic side, the only candidate currently vying for the governor’s office is former Ohio Department of Health Director Amy Acton.
