The Vizhnitzer Rebbe protested recent violence within certain segments of the Chassidic world.

During seudah shlishis at his Bais Midrash in Kiryat Vizhnitz in Bnei Brak, the rebbe vehemently protested against Chassidim raising their hands to one another.

The rebbe told his followers: “It is forbidden to raise one’s hands (against another). Chassidim have protested the honor of their respective rebbe, but there is no such thing as raising one’s hands. We have never heard of such a thing.”

The rebbe told of a story about his zaide, the Toras Chaim, when there was a case of a chossid who protested for his honor and was sentenced to prison. When the chossid came to the rebbe, he replied: “They put you in jail for a month. I would put you in jail for three months.”

  1. Question: Is “I was just following orders” a valid defense? Is it OK to desecrate Shabbos, injure etc. since it’s “just following orders”?

Answer: No. דברי הרב (הקב”ה) ודברי התלמוד (הרבי), דברי מי שומעים?

Question: What happens if the Rav declared that his orders are ר”ל from הקב”ה?

Answer: You only listen to a Rav since he’s representing the Words of Hashem. However, if a Rav ever tells you to violate the Words of Hashem (as codified in shulchan oruch), then, in this case, Hashem has already commanded you not to listen to the rav.

See Rashi in beginning of פרשת קדושים on the Pasuk: איש אמו ואביו תיראו ואת שבתתי תשמרו אני ה

May we all be zoche to complete and sincere teshuvah.

    • The problem is that the lines between the רבי and הקבײה is blurred. Some Chassidim think the the רבי IS הקבײה. That’s were the problem lies.

  2. finally…… I’ve been waiting to hear who will have the courage. we are not connected to either side but what our eyes saw that shabbos is unforgivable. those were not bachurim and avreichim that looked like they are on the fringe; they looked serious and frum. But their behavior, the chilul shabbos, the absolute traumatizing scenes we saw with our own eyes is unforgivable. And everything in no time got swept under the rug like nothing happened.

    • Bring back those driveway weddings next to the stinky garbage cans. They were so heilig and emotional. Those who were zoche to make such chassunas with no guests have the warmest and fondest memories.

  3. It’s so sad that those involved in the violence haven’t figured this out themselves. Even sadder is that the chassidim that are committing these acts of violence, claiming that this is lishaim Shomayim, are oblivious to the open issurim against this in the Torah. They are also completely ignoring that a prerequisite for Kabolas Hatorah was the achdus of Klal Yisroel. The Viznitzer rebbe was perfectly accurate in proclaiming that this raising of hands was not mentchlich, not consistent with Yiddishkeit, and not related in any way to chassidus. The trouble with all this is that the criminals committing these acts of savagery are fully aware that the Torah prohibits it. They just don’t care.

    • They are convinced it is a Mitsva . They are not to blame that much . It s the ones who convince them who carry the blame !

  4. It’s not the one that gives the slap it’s the one that initiates machlokes that’s to blame.
Nobody ever knows who is the one that pulled the wrong button…. and this goes to every machlokes…
    Vehamevin yavin…

    • 1) You are turning this into a “machlokes” where both sides are fighting. This is an outright lie. And a disgusting attempt to whitewash the disgusting behaviors. Stop the violence! Period. Stop the claims of Amalek! Period.

      2) If you have a valid claim that someone initiated a machlokes, then go ahead and state it clearly. How? When?

Trying to turn the inexcusable desecration of Torah into a “nobody knows” is a disgusting attempt to excuse the inexcusable. If you have a defense, please state it.
