The Rebbe was TEACHING how the mitzva was performed. It was an amazing treat to actually see how the kiyum Hamitzva is actually done. It taught us that Torah is Nitzchiyus. It is hardly an activity that any New York person will ever see. He taught us all the dinim involved too. The Rebbe actually bent down and shlepped the sheep to enact a kinyan. It was a fascinating Torah lesson for all to experience!
As a side bar, some little birdie tells me that this is wholly a better way to experience Chol Hamoaid compared to all the other activities many do. This was wholly Torah’dik.
Again the core issue was not addressed.
Is it mutar or osur to shear sheep on chol hamoed?
The was no video of the actual shearing which means it may of occurred on Chol Hamoed but only after Yom Tov.
If the shearing will take place after Yom Tov we run into other issues of mehkach umemkar (Sheol letzoraich Yom Tov) on chol hamoed. (the writing part may have been prepared before Yom Tov).
The Torah teaching was beautiful especially in front of thousands including young children.
However, all must fall WITHIN halachic parameters and we are not questioning the Rebbe just can anyone else do this on a chol hamoed for their family or friends or fund raising or stam a American style Chol Hamoed ‘activity’?
In a general way Yosef Chaims ending statement is correct,Since the shearing wasn’t shown,maybe theRebbe didn’t actually shear but only taught the halochos .
