When CNN host Jim Sciutto attempted to question senior Hamas official Osama Hamdan about whether the terror organization accepted any responsibility for Palestinian casualties in the ongoing Gaza conflict, Hamdan repeatedly accused the journalist of bias and abruptly cut the interview short without providing any answers.
“Does Hamas today regret the October 7 terror attacks?” Sciutto asked Hamdan at the beginning of the interview.
Hamdan responded, “Well, it seems to me you are giving the Israelis the right to kill Palestinians. When you ask if we feel regret for what Israel has done, you have to understand that Israel has been killing the Palestinians for the last 76 years.” He attributed the failure of the Oslo Accords to Israel and accused the country of trying to expel all Palestinians from the region.
During the 1990s, Hamas had vehemently opposed the peace process, orchestrating a series of deadly terror attacks while negotiations with the Palestinian Liberation Organization were ongoing.
Sciutto, noting his two decades of experience covering terror attacks committed by Hamas, pressed Hamdan once more, asking whether Hamas took any responsibility for the civilian deaths in Gaza due to its use of civilian infrastructure for military activities and its use of noncombatants as human shields.
In response, Hamdan accused Sciutto of bias, claiming that he had only viewed the conflict through “Israeli eyes.”
“You didn’t see the Israelis killing thousands of Palestinians in those 20 years,” Hamdan alleged.
Sciutto refuted Hamdan’s claim, insisting that he had been in Israel during the wars of 2008 and 2014.
“Actually, I was here in 2014, and in 2008,” Sciutto countered. “What you’re saying is factually not true. I was here for both of those conflicts. My question is, does Hamas accept any responsibility for the deaths of its own people in Gaza?”
Hamdan retorted, “You can’t ask and answer by yourself. Either you let me answer, or you can finish that talking point yourself.”
Sciutto once more pressed Hamdan on whether Hamas accepted responsibility for the casualties in Gaza. Hamdan then accused the journalist of siding with Israel and discussing Palestinian deaths “as if they were nothing, and you are just saying that the Palestinians were killing the Israelis.”
Hamdan also inaccurately claimed that even though Hamas did not exist in the West Bank, Palestinians were still being killed there.
In reality, the terror group does have operations in the West Bank and frequently claims responsibility for attacks against Israelis in the area. Additionally, Hamas flags are a common sight at rallies in the territory.
Sciutto pointed out that CNN had extensively covered the deaths of Palestinians. He attempted to cite “a Palestinian from Gaza,” but Hamdan continued his verbal attacks.
“You just want to listen to yourself and the Israelis,” Hamdan accused.
Finally, Hamdan once again claimed that the journalist supported the killing of Palestinians and abruptly ended the interview without providing any answers.
