Shlomo Yehuda Rechnitz, the renowned Los Angeles philanthropist, sponsored this year’s Oneg Shabbos v’Yom Tov Kimcha d’Pischa, the world’s largest distribution of food packages for Yom Tov.

15,000 families received food packages, all staples of Pesach. The recipients ranged the full gamut of residents of Yerushalayim: Litvishe families, Sefardic families, Bucharian families, Chassidishe families, as well as dati-leumi families.

Oneg Shabbos v’Yom Tov’s founder is Rav Ephraim Stern, who has been leading this effort since 1979.

When asked for his thoughts of any potential impact in overall tzedakah giving due to the uncertainty of the economy, Shlomo Yehuda quickly replied, “It’s easy to write a check when you’re in your comfort zone, but the real nisayon to overcome is in these times, and every genuine baal tzedakah knows that.”

Shlomo Yehuda then added, “Just give, give and give more, and then just sit back and watch more brocha just flow right back to you.”
