The journey of haschalas gemarah is daunting for any boy in yeshiva: a new language, unfamiliar grammar, foreign concepts and a set of logic that is quite challenging. It’s like being in 1st grade all over again!

Of course, those of us who have successfully navigated this journey know how worthwhile it is, and appreciate how our lives have been eternally transformed through the learning of Gemorah. But have we forgotten the experience of the journey itself? Perhaps it was that first good grade that gave us confidence. Or maybe just an encouraging word that carried us through.

Baruch Hashem boys throughout the Torah world have made tremendous strides in learning. Whether in terms of their skill set, confidence, or personal enjoyment of learning, it has truly been transformative.

This song was inspired by, and is in honor of, this hard fought journey and the success that has been achieved. We invite you to experience the ride along with us. We hope you enjoy!

  1. Excellent! Excellent, indeed. It is, on the one hand, so sad that many Mesivta and Beis Medrash bochrim are asking these very questions, and remaining frustrated, unhappy, unfulfilled Bnei Torah; sorely lacking the simchah of mah Tov chelkeinu.

It is, on the other hand, so comforting that there are Yeshivos and Rebbeim who are addressing these very same questions at the very outset of their learning. Ashrei chelkichem. May you be blessed with much berachah and hatzlachah.

    • it is so sad? how about add to that the reality that their are even children who dont have yeshivas or roam the streets.

  2. What a lucky group of budding talmidei chachamim. Rabbi Meltzer is a true superstar!
My nephew was his talmid a few years back.

  3. When you learn a Blatt Gemara it can be real frustrating
All new words with no נקודות not to mention translating
Then there is a special tune with which you are supposed to sing
After you have mastered that you can begin understanding

    CHORUS:
תא שמע ,come and listen, to what I have to say
קשה, תרץ A סבראthat is the Gemara way
If you’re willing to work hard word by word line by line
In the end a life of joy in Torah learning you will find

  4. My dear Rebbe may I tell you, something that is on my mind
I believe Gemara learning, is NOT really for my kind
Each Gemara’s so confusing, impossible to explain
Then after I finally get it, we start all over again

My dear Talmid even though, right now it doesn’t seem so fun
If you stay strong and commited, the big prize you will have won
Right now you are training hard, working your Gemara muscles
Keep on pushing , in the end you will be strong and powerful

    CHORUS

My dear Rebbe please excuse, I don’t mean any disrespect
The Gemara’s not exciting, it’s not what I did expect
And please Rebbe can you tell me, can you answer honestly
If I plan to be a doctor, what good will it do for me?!

My dear Talmid do you want a life that’s filled with happiness?
Listen close and believe me, the greatest joy comes from Tosfos
And besides who really knows,(pause) only time will truly tell
If your dreams will change its course, and you will be a Rosh Kollel?
    CHORUS
Ok Rebbe I can see, that learning is more than I thought
But there still is one more thing, to your attention must be brought
Why should I use this old Sefer, one my grandfather would use
When I have one with translations, and Nekudos there for you?

My dear talmid your learning is worth much more when work’s put in
It has a way to cleanse your soul, bring your Middos to perfection
Your יצר טוב will thank you too, because he’ll be able to win
In your life-long battle with(pause), the evil inclination!
    CHORUS
My dear Rebbe, I never thought, that learning was really wise
But after our little chat, you truly have opened my eyes
Bilee neder from now on, I will try hard to understand
If you don’t mind, can you please come over and give me a hand!

    CHORUS:
תא שמע ,come and listen to what WE have to say
קשה, תרץ A סבראthat is the Gemara way
WE are willing to work hard word by word line by line
In the end a life of joy in Torah learning WE will find!!!!
