(Tea Party PAC) – It has been well-established that much of what Bernie Sanders wants to force other Americans to do isn’t anything he’s willing to do himself.
Whether it’s forking over his own money or traveling only by high-speed, eco-friendly rail systems, Uncle Bernie doesn’t seem willing to practice what he preaches.
And now, he’s getting slammed for it by his own side.
Former staffers of Hillary Clinton revealed to Politico that Sanders repeatedly demanded private jets for himself and his staff after he lost (we use the term loosely) his bid for the Democratic nomination to Clinton in 2016 and traveled around to stump for her
The former Clinton staffers mocked Sanders as “his Royal Majesty King Bernie Sanders” for the massive carbon footprint his private jet travel created, which cost about $100,000 in the final months of the 2016 campaign.
“I’m not shocked that while thousands of volunteers braved the heat and cold to knock on doors until their fingers bled in a desperate effort to stop Donald Trump, his Royal Majesty King Bernie Sanders would only deign to leave his plush D.C. office or his brand new second home on the lake if he was flown around on a cushy private jet like a billionaire master of the universe,” shared Zac Petkanas, the director of rapid response for the Clinton campaign in 2016, with Politico
“We would try to fight it as much as possible because of cost and availability of planes, but they would request [a jet] every time,” another source said. “We would always try to push for commercial. … At the campaign, you’re constantly trying to save like 25 cents.”
Arianna Jones, a spokeswoman for Sanders, instead argued that the Senator’s private flights were necessary to keep up with the time-sensitive schedule of the campaign.
“That’s why chartered flights were used: to make sure Sen. Sanders could get to as many locations as quickly as possible in the effort to help the Democratic ticket defeat Donald Trump,” she said.
Pretty sure everyone who flies in private jet has a good reason most of the time, wouldn’t you think?
Here’s where it gets particularly hilarious, though. Sanders didn’t just fly in a private jet during the election, he continued to charter private jets for the next two years!
Politico reveals that Sanders has spent at least $342,000 on private flights since.
