Esther Aker, the daughter of the Zaka legend R’ Meir Acker, is at a pivotal moment in her life. She’s engaged to be married. But what should be a happy family simcha has been shrouded by a dark cloud- Esther’s mother, the beloved Rebbetzin Aker, is severaly ill.
The Akers are an incredible family. Despite illness and financial duress, they always continued doing what they love most: Giving to others. In fact, R’ Aker was one of the first responders in the South after October 7th, and his family whole-heartedly supported his exceptional humanitarian efforts in the South throughout the preceeding weeks.
But now that Esther is engaged, and without her mother’s support, there is nothing to help her get ready – She can’t even afford a simple dress.
“Watching my mother battle this illness, unable to stand by my side as I prepare for my wedding… it’s a pain that words can’t quite capture. And our financial situation is just terrible. My mother was once our main breadwinner.”
As the daughter of a chesed powerhouse, Esther knows that her family has given so much to the public, for complete strangers, and never expected anything in return. Now, the question weighs heavily in the air: Will the public be there for them in their time of need?
