Thousands gathered once again on Wednesday evening outside Israel’s Prison 10, where yeshiva bochurim and avreichim are being held for refusing military service due to their commitment to Torah study. The rally, led by admorim and rabbonim, was organized by Chassidic communities across the country in a show of solidarity and defiance.
The event brought together large contingents from Pinsk-Karlin under the leadership of the rebbe, members of the Slonim community, Gur–Arad, as well as noted rabbonim including Rav Shmuel Eliezer Stern, ga’avad of Sha’arei Hora’ah and senior posek in Bnei Brak, and Rav Yisrael Fishbein, rov of the Gerer kehillah in Petach Tikva.
The rally opened with a unified outcry from the crowd: “Release them from Gehinnom. Shame!”
In a powerful speech, Rav Shmuel Eliezer Stern invoked the memory of Jewish suffering in the Holocaust. “We endured the Holocaust, in which six million Jews were slaughtered. We came here, and now our misguided brothers, who have sunk to the lowest depths, are competing over who can stab more knives into the backs of Torah observant Jews in Eretz Yisroel. We endured the Holocaust—we will overcome them too.”
Throughout the gathering, the rabbonim voiced their protest against what they described as the authorities’ campaign of harassment toward lomdei Torah in Israel, condemning the imprisonment of the yeshiva students and avreichim inside Prison 10.
