A woman jumped a fence onto White House property today and was immediately taken into custody, the Secret Service said. The White House went into a security lockdown and members of the news media were not permitted to leave the building for more than an hour. Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan said the woman jumped the northeast fenceline rimming the White House at 3:17 p.m. EDT.
No injuries were reported. The woman was transferred to the Washington Metro Police Department.
