On Wednesday’s episode of “The View,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg expressed her frustration and annoyance with the ongoing discussions surrounding Hunter Biden’s laptop. She passionately urged people to “shut up” about it and hoped that the issue would simply fade away.
Goldberg questioned the significance of the laptop in light of a five-year investigation that resulted in Hunter Biden pleading guilty to two counts of willful failure to pay federal income tax. She insinuated that if the investigation took such a long time and led to relatively minor charges, it suggested that there might not have been much substantial evidence found on the laptop.
Expressing her disdain for the laptop, Goldberg exclaimed, “I’m sick of hearing about that laptop. This laptop, I hope it just crumbles to death, I hate it so much.”
Co-host Sunny Hostin acknowledged the salacious material found on the laptop, including explicit photos, drug use, and firearms, but also emphasized Hunter Biden’s struggles with addiction and his participation in a diversion program for a gun charge.
Goldberg demanded that Republicans cease discussing the laptop, urging them to focus on other issues related to President Biden instead. She urged them to do their best to gather any relevant information but to stop holding up what she considered to be unsubstantiated claims. Goldberg drew a comparison to the scrutiny faced by former President Trump and expressed her desire for evidence to be presented if it exists.
During the show, the hosts praised Hunter Biden’s plea agreement, with Hostin stating that it demonstrated that “no one is above the law.” She questioned why charges were only being brought forward now, five years after the investigation began, and why they seemed limited in scope.
ABC’s Jonathan Karl, the guest on the show, explained that the prosecutor, David Weiss, was appointed during the Trump administration and had been investigating the case for five years. While the full extent of the investigation remains unknown, Karl mentioned that the prosecutor had access to the laptop and had focused on Hunter Biden’s dealings in Ukraine. He agreed with Hostin’s concerns and stated that it was a valid question to raise.
Hunter Biden also agreed to enter into a pretrial diversion agreement for a separate charge related to possession of a firearm as an unlawful user of controlled substances.
