Whooping Cough Vaccinations Administered In Los AngelesOcean County had three reported cases of whooping cough last week centered in Lakewood, according to local health officials.

Whooping cough, or pertussis, is a highly contagious bacterial respiratory infection that causes violent coughing fits and a characteristic “whooping” sound as sick people struggle to breathe, according to the Centers for Disease Control. The infection can be deadly in infants.

According to the Ocean County Health Department, the cases are centered in Lakewood’s Orthodox Jewish communities and appear related to an outbreak of whooping cough in Brooklyn. Read more here.

  1. Pertussis is very dangerous and those people who do not vaccinate their children because they feel it is u healthy are putting those of us who are unable to get vaccinated at risk.
    People on chemotherapy cannot get the shot for pertussis and if they come down with the disease it can be fatal.
    Newborn babies cannot get the vaccine and if they get pertussis it can be fatal.
    The people who CANT get vaccinated are at a higher risk than those who can but don’t.

  2. This is the result of the anti-vaccination movement. Why anybody believes the pseudo-science and conspiracy theories of of the anti-vaxxers is beyond me. There should be a cherem on parents who fail to vaccinate their children from being able to attend schools, be part of mosdos committees, etc. This is a very serious issues, involving sakanas nefeshos. While there are some issues today with conventional medicines, vaccinations is not one of those.
