A new survey from The Wall Street Journal reveals that former President Donald Trump is virtually even with Vice President Kamala Harris in national standings.
The poll indicates that Harris holds a slight edge over Trump, with 48% of registered voters supporting her compared to 47% backing Trump in a direct contest. When factoring in independent and third-party candidates, Harris extends her lead to 47% versus Trump’s 45%. However, these differences are within the margin of error, rendering the race a “too close to call” situation.
This poll, published on Thursday, is notable as it represents the first instance where Harris has outpaced Trump in a direct matchup according to the Journal’s polling, which has been ongoing since last year. In contrast, a previous Journal poll from late last month had Trump leading Harris by 2 points.
Although the poll shows that 49% of voters have a favorable view of Harris while another 49% view her unfavorably, there is less enthusiasm regarding her performance as vice president, with 42% approving and 51% disapproving of her job.
Michael Bocian, a Democratic pollster involved in the survey, explained to the Journal, “Voters are assessing her job approval as Biden’s vice president, but they are assessing her as her own candidate for president.” He also noted, “She has emerged successfully as a candidate.”
Meanwhile, David Lee, a Republican pollster who also contributed to the survey, remarked that following a period of favorable media coverage and the momentum from the Democratic National Convention, “Kamala Harris has managed to tie Donald Trump nationally — and a tie nationally points to a sizable electoral win for Trump.”
Lee referenced the 2016 election, where Democrat Hillary Clinton won the national popular vote by over 2 percentage points but was ultimately defeated by Trump in the Electoral College.
The Wall Street Journal poll included responses from 1,500 registered voters between August 24 and 28. The poll’s margin of error is plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.

The only poll that makes a difference is the election day poll, where hopefully the Republicans will win by a wider margin than the Democrats cheating.
Take the K from Kamala and move it to the end of her name: amalaK!
The only way “Kamala” can become president is if she’s installed like “Biden” who had to sit-in until President Trump completes his goal of “Draining the Swamp.” Most of the public have woken up and will not accept another fake president.
