Yanky Ostreicher to Be Topic of House Hearing Tomorrow

yanky-ostreicherRep. Chris Smith (NJ-04), chairman of the House panel that oversees international human rights, will chair a congressional hearing tomorrow on the case of Yanky Ostreicher, who has been held without formal charges in Bolivia since June 2011.

A hearing will be held entitled “Seeking Freedom for American Trapped in Bolivian Prison.”  Smith was asked to become involved in the case by Mr. Ostreicher’s daughter Chaya Weinberger, a Lakewood, N.J. resident who is a constituent in Smith’s congressional district.

The event will be addressed by Smith, and other members of the human rights subcommittee, and witnesses:

  • Jerjes Justiniano Atalá, of Bolivia, attorney for Jacob Ostreicher, (son of
  • Miriam Ungar, Mr. Ostreicher’s wife, of Brooklyn, NY
  • Chaya Weinberger, Mr. Ostreicher’s daughter, Lakewood, NJ
  • Steve Moore,former FBI Special Agent, known for his work in the Amanda Knox case in Italy.

The hearing will take place at the Rayburn House Office Building, Room 2172, on Capitol Hill.

    the Romney camp should use this against “weak” Obama. this will FORCE Obama to act, so that he should “appear” strong.
