A member of Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid’s centrist Yesh Atid party used a comparison to Adolf Hitler while discussing a possible far-right government formed by Opposition Leader Bibi Netanyahu.

“I am not comparing this to anything, but Hitler also rose to power in a democratic manner,” Head of the Foreign and Defense Committee Ram Ben Barak said at an event in the southern city of Be’er Sheva.

He continued that there would be extreme ramifications for the judicial system of the Netanyahu bloc – including the far-right Religious Zionism party – winning the November 1 election.

Leader of the Religious Zionism party Bezalel Smotrich proposed broad judicial reforms that could limit the continuation of Netanyahu’s ongoing corruption trial.

“We need to safeguard our democracy,” Ben Barak said.

He raved against “this alliance between (Jewish Power head Itamar) Ben-Gvir and Smotrich’s racist, anti-democratic party and a person who we’ve seen over time is prepared to do almost anything to escape from trial, and will let them do anything,” calling the alliance “dangerous.”

Ben Barak later clarified on Twitter that he would “never compare anyone in Israel and the world to Hitler.”

“The attempt to present this as a comparison is incorrect, and it would sadden me if someone tries to present it that way.”

Shortly after Shabbos ended, Ben-Gvir responded saying that what Ben Barak said “crossed a red line,” and called on Lapid to oust him from the Yesh Atid party. Netanyahu also responded, calling the words “incitement.” – 24 News –

  1. The far left says you cannot live all over Israel! Only Jews can be kicked out of their homes! Heaven forbid should you kick out an Arab from his home! This is precisely why we should vote for the far right to get rid of the Hitler’s on the left! Everyone’s tired of the lies. The current Lebanon deal was made by a dictator! He has to go.

  2. Lapid tramples on democratic values every day. He was NOT elected Prime Minister, he doesnt have the support of the citizens, he is a temporary caretaker due to an agreement he made with Bennett who also was not democratically elected. Lapid doesnt have the moral or ethical right to make deals and policy. Neither Bennett or Lapid were the choice of the majority of the country. They lied to their voters. Yesh Atid supports the arab parties who flaunt the law, support terrorism and publicly state they want to demolish a Jewish Israel.
Voting will send a clear message to Lapid that we dont tolerate this. PLEASE VOTE!!

  3. A more accurate headline would include the beginning of his quote:
“I am not comparing this to anything, but Hitler also rose to power in a democratic manner,”

He specifically noted that he wasn’t comparing them to Hitler but still made his point.

As far as I am concerned, hallalu ovdei A”Z vaHallalu ovdei A”Z. But the headline should still better reflect the story.
