It is expected that new regulations aimed at controlling yeshiva education will be presented to the Board of Regents  on Monday, September 12th. The Board would vote on these regulations on Tuesday, September 13th – with less than 24 hours of deliberation. Yeshiva representatives have not been invited to comment at the Board of Regents meeting. When approached, neither the State Education Department nor the Board of Regents was willing to even confirm when the vote will take place.
The current regulations target only yeshivos. There are changes that effectively exempt all non-Yeshiva private schools from regulation. Most Yeshivas across the state, however, will now need to pass inspections.
Rabbi Chaim Dovid Zwiebel, executive vice president of Agudath Israel of America warns, “If the Board of Regents votes to authorize such an attack, we dare not — we will not — stand idly by.”
Even as she runs for reelection, the Governor refuses to comment on these regulations. She even has refused to sit down with the yeshiva community to discuss them.  Her Republican opponent in the upcoming November election, U.S. Rep. Lee Zeldin, has expressed strong opposition to the proposed regulations.
Mr. Avi Schick, an attorney involved in defending yeshivos, has said “she is gambling that the frum community will forgo its principles come November. That is a bad bet.”
A recent poll shows that the governor’s trace has tightened. We must think long and hard.
Does Governor Hochul deserve our vote?

  1. VAAD ROSHEI YESHIVA OF TORAH UMESORAH CALLED FOR A NATIONAL YOM TEFILLAH TODAY FOR ALL SCHOOLS, THURSDAY, SEPT 8 AT 2 PM EST. BOYS GRADE 4 THROUGH BEIS MEDRASH, AND GIRLS GRADE 4-12.

    • That’s all nice and good, but if we don’t do our proper hishtadlus and go out and vote for Lee Zeldin, you are guaranteed to have tzaros from this rishanta Hochul.

  2. Governor Hochul does not deserve the vote of the frum community.

De Blasio at least waited till after he was elected before throwing the community under the bus.

In her arrogance she is taking our vote for granted let’s show her how wrong she is.

Even without the Yeshiva problem I can’t understand how erliche yidden can vote for someone who supports and implements a Progressive anti Torah agenda.

If we truly believe that income both for persons and mosdos is determined by Hashem on Rosh Hashanah why sell your soul for her handouts.

Especially when there is a viable alternative in Republican Lee Zeidlin whose values are much closer to ours.

    • Well put.

I don’t understand why there is even a question of does she deserve our vote. What has she done to deserve our vote that the question is even raised?

  3. How can a regulation be made specifically for yeshivas? How will they single it out? What if we stop using the name yeshvah in the name?

  4. She is a disaster, no doubt but his article seems to be an endorsement for Zeldin rather, than the intended purpose, of presenting us, the readers, with the news story!

    • It’s both. That’s the fact. You two choices this November, one has proven that we don’t count because all she believes we care about is money. The other is willing to discuss and try to throw his weight around defending our rights.

      • Can you blame her for thinking that. For years we have only voted for people who will give us money, regardless of whatever else they stood for.

  5. If Hochul knows that Jews who depend on the welfare state can be relied to support her election no matter what, she won’t respond well on this.

  6. “YESHIVOS IN CRISIS; HOCHUL IN HIDING”
When asked where he thinks the governor might be hiding, one yeshiva administrator told reporters: “How am I supposed to know where she’s hiding?! Hashomer Hochul Anochi? She’s not hiding in MY yeshiva, that much I could tell you. Did you check Biden’s basement?”

  7. Of course she doesn’t. She didn’t deserve it in the primaries either. But just like in the primaries every askan and askan group is going to come out with strong endorsements for Hochul. They are hypocrites and don’t have what it takes to lead.

  8. “Does Governor Hochul deserve our vote?”

Only a rasha mirusha will vote for this baby killer female. I don’t care which person endorses this female. A vote for the reptilian Hochul is a vote against the Aibishter and the Torah Hakadosha!

  9. If this is the case; every Jewish outlet, mosod, Org, Shul, Rabbi etc worldwide, who cares about Religious Freedom must come out strongly to encourage Jews to vote for the opponent Zeldin!

The very fact that they refuse to even meet, discuss, say it all..

She has proven herself what she stands for.

  10. Mr. Avi Schick, an attorney involved in defending yeshivos, has said “she is gambling that the frum community will forgo its principles come November. That is a bad bet.”
    WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!
Hochul knows the truth! Yeshivas are getting full day UPK does anyone know that no jewish studies are allowed under this program?! I know all the excuses “we sneak it in” etc… However essentially she knows that money is what matters and they will sell out for any money . If we would not accept UPK then maybe we have a chance. Now that BOR knows the truth they can do anything . Please allow this comment to be up. We erliche yidden have to know the truth WE WERE SOLD OUT!
currently in brooklyn the handful of mosdos that care about yiddishkeit only take half day UPK . The rest are raking in on the expense of yiddishekeit. We as parents are also to blame as long as we have free tuition we are happy no questions asked.

  11. Kathy Hochul does not deserve even one vote from our community. In addition to ignoring the predicaments set by the Board of Regents which are targeting our yeshivos , she has turned a blind eye to the rising crime rates across the state. This can be shown by her refusal to take any substantial action on the harsh fallout of cashless bail as well as not firing Manhattan’s incompetent District Attorney, Alvin Bragg. She has called people who are pro-life “Neanderthals” and has voiced support for the twisted and disgusting trend of having drag shows in NY public schools.

Vote for Lee Zeldin on November 8!

  12. Politicians (and askanim) must be taught that our principles can not be bought. What a shame I don’t live in NY so I could actively vote for Lee Zeldin. Democrats are ALL rotten to the core from Biden straight down. May Hashem bring them all down to a bitter defeat. DON’T TRUST THE SO CALLED ASKANIM. USE YOUR OWN COMMON SENSE!!!!! Even if she will win regardless, politicians must be taught that we will not bend. What a tragedy if she wins!

  13. I’m not sure what’s the question?

What is there to think about?
Hochul supports the bail reform law that filled our neighborhoods with emboldened criminals.

That’s besides for her radical policies on LGBT and abortion, vaccine mandates, the list goes on and on.

On top of all that is her quiet support for these new regulations targeting yeshivas. That alone would be more than enough to fully support her opponent.

At this point its clear, the frum community as a whole must come together behind Lee Zeldin for NY Governor. Its the last chance to stop these regulations and bring back a sense of sanity to this state.

Even if we ch”v fall short, the Democrat politicians will see that we have values and are willing to stand up for them.

This time its closer than ever, according to a recent poll, Zeldin is only 4 points behind Hochul. Its possible if every yeshiva parent and alumnus comes out to vote for Lee Zeldin on November 8. Don’t sit this one out! Register to vote now, and bezh we will be matzliach.

The chinuch of our children is at stake!

  14. The “mosdos” and ” askanim” are selling themselves for money. Plain and simple. Chillul Hashem of epic proportions.

  15. Yeshivos are obligated, by law, to provide a competent, equivalent, secular education to their students. The ability to read, write, communicate and compute competently is recognized as helpful, and perhaps necessary, to acquire the skills to succeed in the 21st century.

I went to yeshivos in Boro Park during the 50’s and 60’s and my children were educated in the 80’s and 90’s. We had an excellent secular education. We were expected to take Regents examinations in high school and took pride in the fact that our grades, on average, exceeded those of public school students.

My experience is not unique. All litvishe yeshivos and yeshiva day schools followed the same educational path through high school. College was an accepted, and perhaps expected, educational goal, many times, in conjunction with bais medrish or seminary programs.

The current situation in some schools that offer a diminished secular education, less hours, or no instruction at all
in upper elementary grades and high school, is a problematic trend that is growing. Is this legal? Is this in the best interest of our students? Is this what Agudas Yisroel activists support? Is this a matter of Religious Freedom or a matter of neglecting our responsibilities to provide our children with the equivalent secular education that the law mandates and that these children will need to meet the challenges in the workplace?

    • No one is taking that choice away from those who want it.

There are plenty of litvish yeshivas that have a complete secular curriculum, and if someone feels their childs’ school doesn’t make the cut, by all means there are other options. But parents still have a right to choose the chinuch they feel is appropriate for their children. Why do you feel you have a right to force your views on others?

Regardless of how much secular studies you feel your children should be taught, do you really believe that the radical progressive left are the ones who should be establishing the educational standards? The same left that believes boys can become girls and vice versa, that promotes LGBT filth everywhere, are those the people you want to entrust to set what is “substantially equivalent”?

This is less about what the regulations will include (although expect some nasty surprises there too), and more about the loss of autonomy for our chinuch system.

    • Naftuli, there are other sites to spew your hatred and jealously. B”H the Frum community is thriving in parnasa more than any other generation in this long galus. Some of the biggest gevirim, that are also big baalei tzidaka, didn’t take English in Yeshiva and certainly never went to college. Take your hate and jealously elsewhere.

  16. Hochul is the antithesis of everything a frum Yiddish stands for. She supports bail reform making our streets completely unsafe. She is taking our vote for granted. Please everyone vote republican and kick all these democrats out that are destroying our city and state. Please vote Zeldin

  17. the majority of children, although admitedly not all, educated in yeshiva, bais yaakov type schools, can, by the time they reach third grade, read fluently in two languages, with two different alphabets, in two different directions. many children educated in other systems, cant read english fluently in high school. we do NOT want our curriculum, which emphasizes THINKING, to lower itself to the equivalent to the public school curriculum
