bmg-smallMatzav.com has learned that Beth Medrash Govoha in Lakewood, NJ, is currently faced with a serious seat shortage for its mispallelim for Yom Kippur. The minyan formerly located in the Zemel (Mizrach)Bais Medrash of the yeshiva was moved to the Forest Avenue Bais Medrash on the Kleinman Family campus, which allowed organizers to provide another 250 seats. However, there is still a tremendous demand for seats in all of the yeshiva‘s minyanim.

The yeshiva has a number of minyanim for the Yomim Noraim, including in its Israel Henry Beren Hall Bais Medrash, The Bendheim Bais Medrash in the Adolph and Ethel Beren Building, its Bais Shalom Bais Medrash, the Forest Avenue Bais Medrash, as well as a vosikin minyan. The largest minyan is in the Israel Henry Beren Hall Bais Medrash, where over 1,100 people gather.

Those mispallelim who have assigned seats but will not be davening in the yeshiva on Yom Kippur for whatever reason are asked to call 732-367-1060 ext. 4285 or 4286, so that the seat can be given to someone else temporarily. Those who return next year will get their seat back.

One who does not call to give away his seat and does not use the seat will lose his zechus to any seat, organizers say.

The yeshiva‘s staff has been working from morning to night setting up the yeshiva for the Yom Kippur davening, checking all the air conditioning systems, ensuring that there are sufficient chairs and shtenders for the botei medrash, reviewing the charting of thousands of seats in several botei medrash, and more.

  1. Eis tzara leyaakov! I say we should make a Yom Tefilla for this terrible development! Everyone should take on an extra chumrah! No concerts for at least a half a year (including Chol Hamoed)! No breyers ice cream even at rest stops. We need to be mifashfesh bemaseeh! This is no joking matter!

  2. In Toray Vodaas, it is exactly the same problem. People pay for seats but then just don’t show up. If they would notify the organizers that we want to retain our chazakah on the seat but are not coming this year, then someone else would be able to come. Usually, it is the current talmidim that get shortchanged and are told there is no room for you.

  3. Why is it a serious problem?
B’H everyone should have this problem, but dont worry . the’ll have ‘Daled Amos for each mispalel

    Gmar Chasima Tova
