Yoni Hikind has declared his candidacy for the NYC Council to represent the residents of Borough Park, Midwood, Kensington and Bensonhurst within Council District 44.

The seat is being vacated by Councilman David Greenfield, who is taking over the leadership of the Met Council of Jewish Poverty. Due to Councilman Greenfield’s 11th-hour exit, which left no time for a conventional primary, petitions are being collected to establish the “Our Neighborhood” party line with Yoni as its candidate for City Council.

Yoni grew up in a house of public service, seeing his father, Assemblyman Dov Hikind, responding to constituents’ needs with passion, dedication and devotion. This instilled in him a drive for public service, and an understanding how a dedicated public servant can make a difference in people’s lives.

Professionally, Yoni is a Social worker, who spends his days listening to individuals in desperate circumstances, counseling them with love and devotion. He was involved in leading a school for disadvantaged youth, and helped them lead healthy and productive lives.

“I’ve always listened, cared and tried to give my all to help those most in need. I have the know-how for how government works, and I truly care and have the strong feelings and desire to help people,” Yoni wrote in an open letter he sent to Matzav.com.

In his letter, Yoni described the City Council position as a “job opening” that his constituents have to fill, and he looks forward to applying with and being interviewed by them directly for that job.

The candidate finished, saying “Now, I want to make a difference for YOU!”

  1. All people must support Yoni, I am not saying he is the ideal or greatest candidate but he is a decent person from a good well known family that has the klal’s interests in mind.

  2. I know Yoni since he was a young boy, davening next to his father in Rabbi Goldwasser Shul, when it was on Coney Island Avenue (more than 20 years ago). Yoni is a first class mensch who will make a great Councilman. I wish him much hatzlacha. I WILL be voting for him.
