The National Council of Young Israel (NCYI) today urged all members of Congress to attend Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu’s address to a joint meeting of Congress and expressed strong support for the Prime Minister’s decision to accept the invitation to speak to lawmakers on Capitol Hill. The NCYI stated it has initiated a campaign to enlist its members throughout the United States to contact their elected federal representatives and encourage them to attend the Israeli Prime Minister’s address and hear his views on the Iranian nuclear program.
“We wholeheartedly support Prime Minister Netanyahu’s decision to address Congress on an issue that has widespread global implications,” said NCYI President Farley Weiss. “Iran poses an existential threat to Israel and is a leading exporter of global terrorism. With the insight and expertise that Prime Minister Netanyahu has regarding a nuclear-armed Iran, he is well-positioned to speak to Congress about this important issue at this critical juncture.”
“We fully appreciate the controversy about how the invitation was handled; therefore, we are extremely pleased that New York Senator Charles Schumer has called on his Democratic colleagues to attend the Prime Minister’s speech and we are delighted that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has indicated that she will attend,” continued Weiss, who will be attending the speech after receiving a personal invitation from Arizona Congressman Matt Salmon. “We urge all Members of Congress to attend Prime Minister Netanyahu’s speech and to listen to him expound on an issue that warrants their full attention and complete support. With the state of Iran’s nuclear program hanging in the balance, bipartisan support for and cooperation with Israel cannot take a back seat to partisan party politics.”
