stabbing-bloodReb Yonah Lobel, a resident of Yerushalayim, was stabbed this past Shabbos and sent to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital to be treated. And what began as a phenomenon of wayward youth in Ashdod is apparently spreading to various chareidi neighborhoods with a spate of recent incidents.

On Friday night, Reb Yonah was at his home in the Ramat Shlomo neighborhood of Yerushalayim having his seudah when there was a knock on the door. A young man stood there and asked Reb Yonah, according to reports, “to sing [zemiros] in a lower voice.”

It is unclear what subsequently happened or what the motive was, but the young man stabbed Reb Yonah several times in the stomach, severely injuring him. Reb Yonah was rushed to Hadassah Ein Kerem, where he underwent two surgeries to his stomach and was stabilized.

“The writing was on the wall,” said two locals in the neighborhood in response to the attack. “There are shady characters in the neighborhood and they have criminal records. It was a matter of time until one of them hurt us… and now it occurred to one of the most choshuveh avreichim in the neighborhood, Reb Yonah.”

  1. Just spoke to my brother in Ramat Shlomo. The details of this story are different. It seems that one neighbor poured water on person below. When he came upstairs to fight etc… an unstable person in the house stabbed him…. This happened in Ramat Shlomo (in mizrachi section).
