The Israel Defense Forces announced that Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir had directed troops overnight “to be ready for any scenario,” as the military prepared for the return of hostages and a limited withdrawal of forces from the Gaza Strip under the terms of the ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Hamas.
According to an official statement from the IDF, soldiers would carry out operations “in accordance with the orders of the political echelon and the stages of the deal, and with responsibility while safeguarding our soldiers.”
The army also emphasized that “it will continue to act to realize the goals of the war and to safeguard citizens of the State of Israel on all fronts.”
