Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said that his recent phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump was the most effective and constructive interaction they’ve had so far.

“Regarding the conversation with the president of the United States, which took place a day earlier, it was probably the best conversation we have had during this whole time, the most productive,” Zelenskiy shared in his nightly video message.

He noted that a key topic of the discussion was bolstering Ukraine’s air defenses, emphasizing his appreciation for the continued support from Washington. “The Patriot system is precisely the key to protection against ballistic threats.”

Zelenskiy also mentioned that they covered “several other important matters,” which, he added, would be addressed in more detail by representatives of both nations during upcoming discussions.

Speaking with journalists on Friday, Trump confirmed that his call with Zelenskiy was positive. He also reiterated his dissatisfaction with his earlier conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, citing what he described as a lack of serious intent from Moscow to pursue a ceasefire.

When asked if the U.S. would be sending additional Patriot systems to Ukraine, Trump responded: “They’re going to need them for defense… They’re going to need something because they’re being hit pretty hard.”

Russian aerial assaults on Kyiv and other parts of Ukraine have escalated sharply in recent weeks. Just hours after Trump’s phone call with Putin on Thursday, Moscow launched its most extensive drone attack on Kyiv since the conflict began nearly three and a half years ago.
