Historian Professor Benzion Netanyahu, who is considered an expert on medieval Spanish Jewry, celebrated his 102nd birthday on Sunday with his son, Israeli Prime Minister Binyomin Netanyahu.
Netanyahu joined his father at the latter’s home in Jerusalem.
Prof. Netanyahu is considered one of the world’s leading historians, and spent decades researching the life of medieval Spanish Jewry and the Inquisition in Spain.
Prof. Netanyahu was a leader of the Zionist movement in the United States. He is adjunct professor at the Academy for Jewish Research, a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and Spanish History, and professor emeritus at Cornell University.

His classic “The Origins Of The Inquition in Fifteenth Century Spain” is dedicated to the memory of his son Yoni(O’h) who perished while leading the rescue of hundreds of Jews at Entebbe on July 4, 1976. Yoni was the star of the family and destined for greatness. He acheived it.
