Senior Republican senator John McCain was considering converting to Yiddishkeit until former Senator Joseph Lieberman told him he would have to undergo a bris milah, according to a report in the New York Times.
The former presidential candidate said that he was converting to Judaism at an event arranged in honor of Senator Lieberman after he departed from the Senate.
“Everyone was saying Joe’s the most wonderful guy, the usual —- you hear,” McCain is quoted as having said. So I got up, I was the last guy, and I say: ‘I’m here to announce that I’m converting to Judaism. Because for all these years with Joe, I’ve had to eat that ——- salmon. I had to ride the —- Shabbat elevator. I’ve observed Shabbat to a point where I couldn’t even ride in a ——- car. I’ve had all of the —- associated with this religion, and I’ve gotten not a single benefit. So I’m converting to Judaism.'”
Lieberman then told McCain he would have to undergo “a proper bris.” That seemed to put the kibosh on McCain’s plan to become one of us.
Too bad. Maybe another time.

He obvioulsy was joking around. Why are you reporting this as serious news??
So the Ikaar of being connected with haShem frightened him! Fine! Yiddishkeit is not for him! Let him just keep the 67 he’s required and detz it! Shalom Al Yisroel.
Obviously he wasn’t meant to be part of our nation.
I am so frustrated by the lack of performance by the Miami Dolphins, today, that I am no longer a fan! How can they stink up the joint with the playoffs on the line? They do this every year! How can they lose to the Bills?
Boy, how gullible people can be.
Can’t you tell when someone is being sarcastic?
It was a party to say goodbye to Lieberman so you say nice things about him etc etc and of course you say he’s such a great guy I also want to be like him…
Its a joke… get it ???
McCain was obviously joking, it wasn’t serious.
Leitzonus should not be reported as serious news.
seriously ?????
It wouldn’t be a good garius anyhow if its based on food.
Which Purim outfit do you think he would wear?
I hope everyone knows that McCain said this in jest. The article should be more clear about that.
matzav crazy for going with this story
Reminds me,years ago when I lived in London, and a non-Jewish work colleage asked me quite innocently “tell me,what else is there to you’re religion besides not eating pork, going home early on Fridays and driving a Volvo?” I answered him “that’s it actually,to be honest”.So even though I never “put him off”by mentioning bris miloh,as far as I know he still never converted.
McCain deserves a good knish. Give him a nice warm one to sink into his memory of his own folly. Enjoy Mr. McCain.
McCain is not even running for president anymore. Maybe he could have said this during his first run and all the Jews would have voted for him then our pesent president. This way we would not have this nachash on our backs now.
Thanks! I needed this 😉
Hey — why should he do it now? Let him wait until he’s 100 and then McCain could say he broke Avraham Avinu’s record 🙂
I like Joe, and likes his choice of Palin. Unfortunately we ended up with Hussein
