steve-levin[See Matzav’s report here.] The following statement was released by Councilmember Steve Levin: On Thanksgiving night, Joel Weinberger was viciously beaten by three assailants as he walked home from the Yeshiva in Williamsburg where he teaches.

“Mr. Weinberger was brutally attacked on Thanksgiving evening. The assault is under investigation as a hate crime. Mr. Weinberger’s religious paraphernalia was destroyed during the beating and the victim even recalls the thugs uttering ‘we hate you.’ My thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Weinberger and his family,” Councilmember Levin said.

“I applaud the NYPD for assigning the case to its Hate Crimes Bureau. Mr. Weinberg, a father of four and a teacher at a Yeshiva, is an important member of the Williamsburg community and it is my hope that his attackers are brought to justice quickly.”

Council Member Levin has also written a letter to Commissioner Ray Kelly urging that the NYPD do all that they can to bring the perpetrators to justice.
