Thursday May 2, 2013 5:43 PM - 4 Comments

slabodka-yeshiva-bnei-brakA new rosh yeshiva has been appointed at the well-known Slabodka Yeshiva in Bnei Brak, where Rav Yitzchok Schwartz will be filling the position of his father-in-law, Rav Amram Zaks zt”l, who served as rosh yeshiva until his petirah earlier this year.

Rav Schwartz has been a r”m at the yeshiva for more than 20 years. He will deliver his first shiur klali as rosh yeshiva of Slabodka this coming Sunday. The shiur will be delivered at 6 p.m. with the participation of the other roshei yeshiva, Rav Moshe Hillel Hirsch, Rav Dov Landau and Rav Nachman Plunchak, as well as hundreds of talmidim and alumni.

Rav Schwartz will deliver a shiur klali once a month in the main bais medrash of the yeshiva.

Rav Shmuel Zaks, the only son of the late rosh yeshiva, who also serves as rosh yeshiva at Slabodka, will deliver a shmuess once a month on Motzoei Shabbos. Rav Shmuel is currently in Antwerp in the interests of the Slabodka Yeshiva and will attend a dinner being held there for the benefit of the yeshiva.

The new roshei yeshiva, Rav Zaks and Rav Schwartz, will now also be in a rotation for receiving the aliyah of shlishi in the yeshiva, a kavod generally reserved for the roshei yeshiva.

The Slabodka Yeshiva in recent years has sustained the passing of two of its venerable roshei yeshiva, Rav Boruch Rosenberg zt”l several years ago and Rav Zaks zt”l earlier this year.

This is great news! Rav Schwartz is a great tzadick and an unbelievable talmid chochom. He joined the yeshivah as a Hesder bocher and excelled to the point that R Zaks Z”L took him as a son-in-law.
