It is with great sadness that we report the passing of R’ Shlomo Eisenbach zt”l, a noted Yerushalayim askan who helped numerous Yidden over the years with little fanfare or publicity. He was 76.
Following terror attacks and other tragedies, R’ Shlomo was always on the scene, helping others and providing support. He truly appreciated the concept of kavod hameis at a time when such awareness was far from what it is today.
When Holocaust survivors would pass away, the police knew to call R’ Shlomo, who would immediately tend to all the taharah and kevurah arrangements.
Before there was an organization like Zaka, it was R’ Shlomo who served as a one-man help, search, rescue and recovery team. R’ Shlomo indeed later helped found Zaka and Chesed Shel Emes to continue his avodas hakodesh of helping others and ensuring kavod hameis.
R’ Shlomo, a son of R’ Mordechai Eisenbach of Chicago and Mrs. Sara Hendel Eisenbach, a daughter of Reb Yosef Hoffman zt”l, operated Moniyot Eisenbach in Yerushalayim together with his father.
Few know the full extent of R’ Shlomo’s chassodim to one and all, at any time, day or night, with humility.
His home was always open to any Yid who needed or a warm place to stay. He sought to ease the plights of yesomim, almanos and the destitute.
His son related that whenever the police were unable to locate a missing person, they would call R’ Shlomo, because they knew his chevrah would be more thorough.
A story is told that during a hafganah, R ‘Shlomo drove his car right between the police and the protesting parties. All of a sudden, everything stopped. R’ Shlomo was an ish hashalom whose only goal was kiddush Sheim Shomayim.
His day started at 4 a.m., at which time he went to the mikvah and then to the shiur given by the noted maggid Rav Mordechai Druk at the Kosel before Shacharis. Very often, he got no more than a few hours of sleep – if that much.
For most of his life, he walked to the Kosel every Shabbos for Shacharis from his home, located in Sanhedria Murchevet. Wherever we went, R’ Shlomo was greeted by anyone he met. He was a living example, of chessed, simcha, ahavas Yisroel and ahavas Hashem.
The levaya will take place today at 3:30 p.m. at the Shamgar funeral home, followed by kevurah on Har Hamenuchos.
Tehei nishmaso tzerurah betzror hachaim.
Yehi zichro boruch.

Wow! what a great man!
While we live in America, any time we mention our last name, Eisenbach to a Meshulach or Israeli we meet, we usually get the response, “Shloima Eisenbach??” As if with awe. With great pride, we tell them, yes he is our Uncle…
Yehi zichro boruch.
His father was Rav Mordechai; his uncle was Rav Moshe.
R’ Shlomo had a special Simchas hachaim and was loved by all. Also, his father was Reb Mordechai Eisenbach zt”l.

How was he related to R’ Dovid Eisenbach from chicago in the 1970’s and than from milwaukee?
I just remembered that after a recovery he and some of his chevra would go menachem avel the families. I went with him onetime and could not understand were he had the koach to visit the family after at times gruesome recoveries. Not much was said. But imei onochy bedtzara was the message he portrayed
After coming back from a case he would go to the porch and spend time alone in thought needing to clear his mind. He never got “used” to what he saw. Each case was a raw for him. I know because I asked him this question.

How was he related to R Dovid Eisenbach from chicago in the 1970s and than from milwaukee?
It was his BROTHER
To comment 14-he was the brother of R’ Dovid from Milwaukee
Reb Shloime was in Milwaukee every now and then. Once early in the morning he showed me some photos of the work he did. He had to clean up around suicide bombers and the pictures were horrible and fascinating. He did so much more than the article said. His father and he and all the others working with them have helped save many meisim from autopsies and gave the families the comfort of knowing that the bodies of the people blown up were recovered as much as possible. His neshama should have an aliyah.
