Maran Rav Elyashiv had been hospitalized for pneumonia the night of February 5 and remained in the hospital due to other complications.
At his side today in the ICU were family members, who read Viduy from Maavar Yabok several times before the posek hador’s petirah.
Near his beside was Rav Shmuel Auerbach, as well as Rav Avraham Leizerson, the hospital’s posek Rav Weiss and the most senior physicians of the hospital.
The eighth floor of Shaarei Tzedek was closed and barricaded to the public. Border Police kept order.
All yeshivos stopped second seder to daven.
Radio Kol Chai broadcast tefillos recited live by Rav Eliyahu Shlesinger of Gilo and Rav Addas.
Following the petirah, the head of the hospital, Dr. Yonatan Halevy, gave a summary of the period of the hospitalization and told how the entire hospital marveled as his unusual recovery during the last few months.
A little known fact is that Rav Elyashiv’s parents were married for 17 years before his birth.

I think the date is wrong in this article.
Rav Shlesinger was a talmid of R’ Elyashiv and frequently quotes him in his seforim (eleh hadevarim and Eleh Hem Moadai)

I guess that that mans “year” was only worth the equivalent of 5 months of Reb Elyashiv’s life – if such a comparison (and gift) is possible. Which goes to show a)How great Reb Elyashivs life really was, and b)how you can make so much more out of what you have been given.
#4, I guess it goes to show that Hashem makes the cheshbobos of how long everyone should live, not man
