Here’s what you need to know from today’s White House briefing with press secretary Robert Gibbs:
— Gibbs hinted that President Obama will talk about gun rights in his State of the Union address. “I don’t doubt that, as a result of the impact – or the issues of what happened in Tucson, that there will be a number of proposals that this White House and the Congress will evaluate, and we’ll wait until tomorrow to see what’s in the State of the Union,” he said.
— Gibbs snuck a jab at the so-called birthers who don’t believe Obama was born in Hawaii. “I think rational people have — have long ago, many when they first heard and saw the president, come to the conclusion of his citizenship,” he said.
— The press secretary knocked down the suggestion that Obama has tacked to the ideological “center” after the midterms. He said Obama, despite recently hiring a handful of Clinton administration officials, is “still the same president that we’ve had for more than two years.”
— Both parties sitting together for the State of the Union is a “good step” in working together, Gibbs said, predicting “more collegiality, less acrimony and less partisanship” during the speech.

Is this a chidush? does anybody think they are rational?
Yes Gibbs baby. Birthers may be irrational. But you have to give a “rational” explanation why the President is spending millions on defense lawyers so that his birth certificate is NOT released.
Its simple . Release it and prove that all the birthers are fools and irrational idiots.
But Hawaii wasnt a state yet when he was born, it was only a territory
The Birthers just HATE and can’t debate, where is there proof you might asked? HA, HA, show some proof birthers or people will continue to see you as dumb, stupid or racist, maybe all three. Can you blame them?
Does he seriously expect a Republican congress to support his gun control proposal, unless it is something extremely minimal like increased scrutiny for mental illness or something along those lines?
Birthers cannot debate because there is no one to debate with. For some reason there has not been a presentation of the birth certificate in question. No hospital claims to have been the site of said delivery and no physician claims to have been in attendance.
Anon #3.
Hawaii became a state in ’59.
President became alive in ’61.
to #3, please! Hawaii became a state on December 1, 1960. Obama was born in August 1961.
“when they first heard and saw the president, come to the conclusion of his citizenship, he said.”
I didn’t know that by seeing or hearing a person you can tell where they were born.
BTW, I don’t know why there’s no requirement for anyone running for president to produce a valid birth certificate before appearing on the ballot…
To #2: See the snopes article on this subject:
http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/birthcertificate.asp
His birth certificate (“Certificate of Live Birth”) was released during his campaign.
To #3: Hawaii became a state in 1959. The president was born in 1961.
One may not agree with him politically, but this whole debate is a load of nonsense that distracts from real issues.
#3 Anonymous sums up what rational people see as the problem of the Birthers. They are like Dan Quayle, Sarah Palin, Christine O’Donnell, Michele Bachmann, Sharron Angle and Linda McMahon, they are just not right.
I believe that his “official” Birth Cert. has not been released for two reasons 1) it’s a good distraction and 2) it still has his adopted name, Barry Soetoro on it because Obama decided to go back to his birth name in college, but never made it official in the paper work. Hence his college records are also in his adopted name. Ok thats it. Move on.
