Apples genetically modified to resist browning are coming to stores in late 2016. The Agriculture Department approved the apples on Friday, saying they are not likely to post a plane pest risk or have “a significant impact on the human environment.”
The fruits, which will be marketed as Arctic Golden and Arctic Granny Smith, are developed by a Canadian company, Okanagan Specialty Fruits Inc. They are expected to become available in stores in small, test-market quantities in late 2016. Read more.
