National Unity party chairman MK Benny Gantz delivered a speech Tuesday at the Herzliya Conference, organized by the Institute for Policy and Strategy (IPS) at Reichman University.

In his speech, Gantz focused on the danger posed by the Hezbollah terrorist group in Lebanon.

Gantz emphasized that Israel must “return the southern and northern residents back to their homes, even at the price of escalation. We cannot let Hezbollah keep threats close to the northern border. We need to get the residents back by September 1.”

“We can put Lebanon completely into the dark, and take apart Hezbollah’s power in days,” he stated, cautioning that the cost to Israel “will be heavy. We need to back up our institutions. We need to be ready for major incidents of harm. We should try to avoid it, but if we need to do it, we cannot be deterred from it.”

Addressing the need for a regional and global coalition against Iran, he remarked, “We still have the opportunity of normalization with the Saudis and other states, to build what we started to build, the Middle East air defense, to form a stranglehold on the Iranian axis.”

  1. Look, he is not a religious person, what do you expect? He is talking as a politician and as a retired IDF chief of staff with 38 years in the military. He is stating his belief based on his knowledge of the physical power of the IDF vs Hezbollah. Obviously he is not a Navi, he may be boasting or just speaking from his practical understanding of the situation. We, who are religious and know better about the spiritual side of this, should certainly be davening and building zechusim for Hashem to protect Klal Yisroel and Eretz Yisroel, and for the soldiers to safely complete their missions and return home safely. Their is nothing productive about pointing out that a totally secular person believes in kochi v’otzem yadi, unless you are talking directly to him in a tactful way and could perhaps be a positive influence.

  2. Does anyone know how imminent a war in the north is. I have a wedding next week there. Someone explained to me that at worst it will still take a few weeks for Israel to get out of Gaza and another few weeks at least to set up an army and a battle plan and start an invasion up North. he claims Hezbollah is not escalating anything, just the regular missiles that they know they can get away with so it’s all in Israel’s court of when they’ll be ready to initiate the next step. I can’t run the risk of getting to Israel and getting stuck there for 3 months because they close the airport because of a full fledged war. Does anyone have any real ideas about this? Not just arm chair hock?

    • Only fly with ElAl every other airline will you you stranded at the first sign of escalation. Elal will fly as long as there are no missiles hitting the airport.

  3. Ok. Then shut up and do it.
That’s how professionals take care of these matters re fighting and combat.
    Talk less do more.

  4. Benny Gantz: “DANGERS OF ULTRA-ORTHODOX AUTONOMY”
“It is our duty to transform this national tragedy into change,” said Benny Gantz.
Therefore, for now, we don’t need criticism, but rather draw conclusions. No self-flogging, but a national embrace while looking to the future,” he concluded.
