Senator Ted Cruz of Texas announced his endorsement for Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential bid on Tuesday and declaring the Republican primary race “over.”

This endorsement follows Trump’s resounding victory in the Iowa Caucus, where the 77-year-old secured 51% of the vote and triumphed in 98 out of 99 counties.

Speaking to Fox News host Sean Hannity, Cruz expressed his belief that the race has concluded, stating, “I believe this race is over, so I am proud to endorse Donald Trump for president of the United States.” Cruz conveyed his enthusiasm for supporting Trump and emphasized the need for the Republican Party to unify as they prepare for the upcoming general election against President Biden. However, he refrained from explicitly urging Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley to suspend their campaigns.

Cruz underscored the significance of Trump’s decisive and dominating victory in Iowa, stating that it’s time for the party to focus on the broader goal of success in the November elections. While not dismissing the potential competitiveness of the January 23 New Hampshire GOP primary, Cruz asserted, “I don’t see any path to victory for anyone other than Donald Trump.” He acknowledged the upcoming primary might be closely contested but stressed the importance of moving forward to secure victory.

Senator Cruz, who previously competed against Trump in the 2016 GOP presidential primaries, becomes the 24th Republican senator to endorse Trump. This list includes prominent figures such as Senators Tommy Tuberville, Tom Cotton, Rick Scott, Josh Hawley, JD Vance, and Lindsey Graham, according to reports from the Hill.

  1. Nobody, with a successful political career in the near future in their crosshairs, would dare, in the current climate, not endorse Mr. Trump. Governor DeSantis and Former Governor and Ambassador Haley have both said they would pardon the former President. Both try to present a strong conservative platform, but in a way not to alienate the far right and, at the same time, the moderates, maybe even attracting some moderate Democrats while they are at it.

Senator Cruz’s comment is meant as much to warn the two remaining candidates as it is to voice an endorsement of the former President.

  2. Ted Cruz only endorsed Trump because of his victory in Iowa? He doesn’t have his own understanding whom to vote for?
