In the course of investigating the Jewishness of a 28-year-old man from Georgia, a country that once belonged to the former Soviet bloc, a Tel Aviv beis din noticed something suspicious about his documents. They dug deeper and discovered that the man was adopted and that his biological mother was actually his maternal aunt.
The beis din verified the story through tissue matching and ruled that the young man was a hundred percent Jewish.
“It is difficult to express the great joy,” a relative said. “A moment before his wedding he found out the truth about himself. Surprisingly, he loved his aunt for many years and had a very close attachment to her and her children. Now it turns out that she is his mother and they are his siblings.”
