Chacham Ovadiah Yosef Hospitalized After Suffering Light Stroke

chacham-ovadiah-yosefChacham Ovadiah Yosef, head of Shas’ Moetzet Chachmei Hatorah, was hospitalized after suffering what was believed to be a minor stroke. The 92-year-old venerated senior Sefardic posek is conscious and in a stable condition at Hadassah Medical center, where he will remain for continued observation by physicians.

Chacham Ovadiah was rushed to Hadassah Ein Keren Medical Center after collapsing during Shacharis at his shul in Har Nof, Yerushalayim, this morning.

Chacham Ovadiah remained fully conscious during and after his stroke. He was having difficulty using his left hand in shul this morning, and after his was seen by a physician in his home, it was determined that he had suffered the mild stroke.

Aryeh Deri, the senior Shas leader, told the media that he spoke to Chacham Ovadiah this afternoon and that Chacham Ovadiah sounded excellent, though the stroke is being taken seriously and further tests are being done.

Deri and fellow Shas leader and Interior Minister Eli Yishai went to the hospital Shabbos afternoon to visit Chacham Ovadiah and stayed there for seudah shlishis.
