How many billions of data points are you worth? Data brokers gathering billions of pieces of information on Americans should be forced to operate with more transparency, according to a federal report.
The barely regulated industry categorizes consumers, and the Federal Trade Commission wants these profiles opened so consumers listed as “financially challenged,” or suffering from medical conditions will be able to challenge their characterizations.
“Consumers can’t manage this process by themselves. It’s too big. It’s too complex. There are too many moving parts,” says Commissioner Julie Brill. Read more at The Washington Post.
