The Gerer Rebbe, Rav Yaakov Aryeh Alter, who is currently in New York for the first week of his overseas trip to the United States and Europe, will be meeting the admorim of Satmar, Rav Aharon Teitelbaum and Rav Zalman Leib Teitelbaum, today. The head of the Gerer chassidus had previously met Rav Aharon, eldest son of the previous Satmar Rebbe, the Berach Moshe, but has never met Rav Zalman Leib, third son of the previous Rebbe.
The Rebbe will first pay a visit to Rav Aharon Teitelbaum of Satmar.
The Gerer Rebbe will attend a wedding tonight in Williamsburg, but he will first pay a visit to Rav Zalman Leib there. The Rebbe will attend the wedding of a grandson of Rav Yaakov Perlow, the Novominsker Rebbe and Rosh Agudas Yisroel. The wedding will take place at the Ateres Avrohom Hall on Ross Street in Williamsburg. The kallah is a daughter of R’ Avrohom Einhorn, a Vizhnitzer chossid from Monsey whose father-in-law, R’ Avrohom Shapiro z”l, was a member of the Knesset for the Agudas Yisroel party during the 1980s.
The Gerer Rebbe arrived yesterday at Kennedy Airport in New York and received a police escort to Boro Park. The Rebbe is staying at the home of noted Torah supporter R’ Yaakov Aryeh Emden. Yesterday afternoon, the Rebbe visited the Gerer Mesivta Bais Yisroel in Boro Park.
According to the latest plan details, the Rebbe will remain in the United States until Wednesday, at which time he will travel to France and then to Italy, where a dinner will be held to benefit Mosdos Gur, attended by supporters of the chassidus.
