Giuliani: Obama Should ‘Resign’ Over Libya, Economy, Sandy

giulianiFormer New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani tore into President Barack Obama this weekend, calling for the president to resign over his failed economic policies, the terrorist attacks on the U.S. consulate in Libya, and even for campaigning after Hurricane Sandy.

“He should resign!” Giuliani told a revved up crowd of Mitt Romney supporters in Ohio. “He told us he would resign if he did this poorly! Do you remember that?”

“He lied!” Giuliani continued. “He has been a disaster. The worst president for our economy in our lifetime. He doesn’t want a second term. He wants a second chance, because he screwed it up the first time.”

It was a fiery speech for the former mayor, who until now has taken a relatively low-key approach to his role as a Romney surrogate. But he doubled down on his insistence that Obama resign in a CNN interview, saying that Obama had failed the test of leadership posed by Hurricane Sandy

“Maybe the first couple of days he was keeping his eye on the ball,” Giuliani said. “But we‘ve got gas lines that are a mile long, we’ve got bodies still being discovered and we’ve got a president playing campaigner-in-chief.”

On a conference call with reporters Saturday evening, Obama campaign press secretary Ben LaBolt dismissed Giuliani’s calls for Obama’s resignation as another “desperate” last-minute maneuver by the Romney campaign.

“That’s something you do in a banana republic four days before an election.”
