Google is temporarily disabling its online map editor in order to revamp the approval process. The decision comes after users created an Android character disgracing the Apple logo, along with other acts of vandalism.

The software has given Google a leg up on Apple Maps due to its crowdsourcing service, which allows people to add to or remove buildings, roads, railways, and any other cartographic marker that might be wrong. It has allowed locals, especially those in developing countries, to fill in data that might otherwise be unobtainable.

The recent vandals were most likely on auto-approve due to being “a strong user in our community,” Google said in the statement. Read more at Ars Technia.
