“We are prepared to deal with any scenario or threat, including unconventional weapons,” Israeli Air Force chief Maj.-Gen. Amir Eshel said Wednesday. “This is an issue for the country’s decision-makers. We are providing the relevant capabilities, so that if it is decided to use them, we will know how to.”

According to Eshel, “The process of Syria’s disintegration is a known fact. (Syria) is very close to the State of Israel, in our back yard. In Syria there are weapons from every sort, including unconventional weapons. The first question is what will happen on the day after (Syrian President Bashar Assad’s regime falls). We don’t have a single answer. We need to prepare a response, in which the air force plays a key role.”

The air force estimates that Hezbollah will continue to try and fly drones into Israeli territory. Eshel said that in the event of another conflict with the Lebanese terror group, “rockets will fall in (central Israel) as well. We will try to achieve a swift victory.”

Asked if Israel was involved in the explosions that took place in Hezbollah’s arms caches in recent months, the air force commander said “Those who have such warehouses and go to sleep beside rockets should know that it is not a safe place.
“Hezbollah’s weapons warehouses should be dismantled and this threat must be removed, because unfortunately the international community has not been enforcing (the UN resolution that bans Hezbollah from storing weapons),” he added.

As for the Iranian nuclear threat, Eshel said the air force was preparing so that “all options will really be on the table.”
