America’s longest-serving prisoner held in solitary confinement has been ordered released by a federal judge. Albert Woodfox is now 68 and has served 43 years at the Louisiana State Penitentiary for the 1972 murder of a prison guard.
Woodfox has always claimed his innocence, and now the judge has demanded his unconditional release and barred a third trial on his case.
Louisiana’s attorney general is seeking an emergency stay of the order. Read more at The Times-Picayune.
