Mrs. Leah Rubashkin Testifies in Sioux Falls

rubashkin2Yesterday, at the Rubashkin trial in Sioux Falls, S.D., defense lawyers called Reb Shalom Mordechai Rubashkin’s wife, Leah, as a character witness. Leah Rubashkin described her husband as a “very warm, giving, caring person who’s loyal and dedicated. He has a tremendous respect for his parents and his religion.”

Leah Rubashkin said her husband worked constantly before the raid, rising as early as 4:30 a.m. for davening and then heading to Agriprocessors. He returned in the evenings for supper, time with their children and to spread work papers out over their dining table.

Her husband of 28 years “was kind of like a firefighter” as they moved from New York to Atlanta to St. Paul, Minn., to Postville, she said. “Wherever the fire was, that’s where he went.”

Defense lawyer Guy Cook said his team plans to call six additional witnesses today. Reb Shalom Mordechai is expected to testify in his own defense tomorrow, and lawyers will likely present closing arguments on Monday before handing the case to a jury.

Please continue to daven for Shalom Mordechai Halevi ben Rivkah.
