crane-collapseA year after a massive crane collapse in Manhattan, the 19-story condo tower that had been under construction remains unfinished. The city will mark the first anniversary today of the devastating collapse that demolished a town house and killed seven people on March 15, 2008. The accident helped focused attention on construction safety in the city. Survivors and elected officials are expected to hold a vigil this afternoon.Work on the Midtown Manhattan tower where the crane had once loomed remains stalled pending approval of the developer’s revised plans to comply with zoning.

A city report concluded Wednesday that workers used the wrong kind of slings and put them in the wrong place on the crane. That report backed federal and criminal probes.
